If you are like me, and just can hardly wait to get your hands on the next big thing, here is a list of a few awesome gadgets you should keep an eye out for this year:

  1. iPhone 8 from Apple

Apple’s upcoming iPhone, which should see release at Apple’s annual conference in September, is set to be an impressive upgrade for the smartphone, according to several rumours and reports from industry gurus.

The new iPhone 8 is rumoured to have a design made up of all glass, a led display (organic), different screen sizes, no home button, and more. The OLED display made of flexible plastic allows Apple to introduce a thinner device which consumes less power and offers an overall better display.

But according to MacRumors, Apple has reportedly been testing more than 10 iPhone model prototypes, so it is not entirely clear what Apple enthusiast can expect to see at this year’s 10th-anniversary release.

It is also speculated that Apple has been working to incorporate built-in augmented reality features – such as Pokémon Go, but available or all kinds of apps. However, this feature might not be seen on the new iPhone 8.

Thanks to other technological advancements in items such as mifare card design, smartphones are also able to incorporate improved contactless payment options as well.

  2. Galaxy S8 from Samsung

This new smartphone was actually recently released – specifically on April 21, 2017 – but, if you haven’t tested out this product yet, you don’t know what you’re missing.

As their first chance to regain popularity from the catastrophe surrounding the Galaxy Note 7, Samsung didn’t skimp on the “wow” factor of this smartphone.

The new smartphone offers an exceptional experience for any user thanks to its large display, great camera, and improved battery life.

The Samsung Galaxy S8 includes a new feature powered by the startup company, Viv – a digital assistant. Viv is an AI (artificial intelligence) company the major technology company purchased earlier this year.

Oh, did I mention Viv was founded by the same people who built Siri? That’s right – it was.

  3. Galaxy Note 8

After the unprecedented fall of one of the most recent Samsung phones – the infamous, Note 7, the future for the Samsung Note phones has remained uncertain. However, as of late June, it was confirmed that there will be a Samsung Galaxy Note 8 released.

A release date has not yet been confirmed yet, however, it is rumoured that it will be made available later in August of this year.

The Samsung Galaxy Note 8 is reportedly being testing with Android Nougat (7.1.1) and will most likely not have the Oreo handset as was previously speculated.

  4. Microsoft Surface Book 2

The first-ever Microsoft laptop, the Surface Book, should be coming due for an update this year – speculations are pointing to a release date of autumn 2017.

It is rumoured that Microsoft might decide to go with a clamshell design, as opposed to the current 2-in-1 design of the Surface Book.

  5. New VR headsets

Thanks to a new update – Windows 10 – at the end of July this year, most people will have the ability to use their PC with their virtual reality (VR) headset.

The virtual reality headsets will come from an array of big names including Lenovo, Asus, and Dell.

Another added feature that the new VR headsets will take advantage of is their holographic capabilities.

So, what is the best part about the Windows 10 update? It’s free!

  6. Xbox Project Scorpio

This year, Xbox lovers will see a supercharged version of their favourite gaming system. Project Scorpio – a more powerful version of the Xbox One – is designed specifically for 4K TVs.

It is also rumoured that the Xbox Project Scorpio might also be compatible with virtual reality headsets, such as the Oculus Rift.

The new gaming system is expected to launch in the fall of this year and will be geared toward gamers who value performance the most in a gaming system.

  7. Nintendo Switch

Earlier this year we saw a month of big news for Nintendo fans, and this is a gaming system all fans of the legendary video game company will want to get their hands on this year.

The Nintendo switch is designed to be played anywhere – play it in the comfort of your own home or in handheld mode while you are on the go, featuring a seamless transition. The new system also allows you to flip the screen and enjoy a multiplayer game.
